Ok, the training section is too long-winded, so I'll try a new thread.

How about an academy in place of the old training facilities, which now decides how many extra training slots you get? The cost would be excessive after 5 slots. The academy would be yours, at your ground and therefore the training boosts would be extra to any normal training the player is getting. In other words, it'll act just like the existing E/T in SS1. The only difference is you could now spend a huge amount to get extra slots.

Maintenance would be something like lvl x lvl x lvl x £100. So £100 at level 1, £12,500 at level 5 and £100,000 at level 10. The balance would aim at around level 5 so that it's not a no-brainer to just take it at level 10 and get more than £100,000 worth of player value from the boosts.

Also I'm interested to know how rl 'Schools of Excellence' work. There's one right at the end of my road for the infamous Notts County. From what I can tell, the players there don't have anything to do with Notts at all. They train and then at the end of each year, they go over to the Notts youth team? Something like that? Thinking it might be something that could be added, although I do have an existing U16's system in SS2 anyway.

Academies vary depending on their "level of excellence". Clubs try to get a Premier League standard one as it protects their players against being taken by top flight clubs (you can be premier league without being in the premier league if yuor facilities are good enough and enough money is invested in it by the club).

The one in Nottingham will still have to have investment from County for players to be going to them at the end of the season and County will help with funding and provide coaches etc for the sports part whilst the local council/sports company will provide the rest of the education.

Actually think your idea is far better than the real academies for what it's worth as most clubs would argue they don't achieve much for the club unless enormous as even with the protection of being a PL academy all it really means is clubs will take your player and have to pay a few hundred grand for the privilege.

Your planned idea of inter-weaving the different levels sounds far better and, most importantly, more enjoyable. By all means use the name academy just don't worry too much about modelling it on actual academies :)

Yeah, well the 2nd part was a separate idea really. It's kinda modelled similarly in the U16's which is already in place, so I'd rather not rewrite stuff right now.

If you're happy with the idea of mixing the facilities and E/T into some kind of 'Academy' then that's 2 votes in favour and so far, nobody has found a problem with it. Balancing might be an issue but I'll have to do some numbers and see what happens.

I like the word 'Academy', it has a modern feel, so I'll call it something like 'Training Academy' and it'll be pretty clear by the way it's laid out that it's just the old E/T but with the extra option to buy more slots, if you're rich enough.

So thinking about this a bit more, the good news is, that's the final two bits of the puzzle solved (ET and facilities) and this one is tweakable if it's imbalanced, rather than having to reprogram it completely. Same goes for the other training ideas. In this case, I can either make the maintenance even more prohibitive (like £1M a week for 10 slots) or make the ET boost lower, or both. So at least that's all the basics worked out and I get on with programming and just get the balance right as I go along :)
