Tipped by many for the trophy, BA came into this game as clear favourites, but GE clearly hadn't read the script and started the better team. BA had just one early chance, before GE started to take control of the game, and went into a deserved lead half-way through the first half - a fabulous long-range strike from midfielder Eric Powell giving the BA keeper no chance. As half-time approached, GE were still looking the better side, but just before the whistle, BA grabbed an equaliser. A great run from BA striker Derek Parkinson left the GE defence in tatters and fellow striker Steve Whitehall was on hand to slip home the finish after Parkinson's shot was saved.

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of GE, who looked tired and demoralised in the 2nd half. BA went into the lead when midfielder Mitch Johnson headed home from a corner, and now BA were looking like potential champions. Even so, it was a nail-biting finish and GE had chances to grab a point, but BA hung on for the win.
