Birth of the Opal

Back in the 90's there were numerous NSA leagues knocking about and some of these were merged (one of these was NSA2) to form Non League Football 2 (run by Sherwood Games), which started in Mid 1994. The league ran for 8 seasons before it was changed to the Opal in Feb1999. On the last turn for the NFL2 it said:

"This is the end of the season. Congratulations to the winners.

IMPORTANT Next season this league will be run by TRIDENT GAMES, 9 TRENT DRIVE, HUCKNALL, NOTTINGHAM

Glyn is the programmer for Soccer Star. Unfortunately the number of managers playing in this league have dropped too low for us to run it but Glyn has managers available to join and make the numbers up.
We would like to thank all managers, who have been playing in this league but especially those managers who started in the first season and are still playing - Queendown FC, Darwen Utd, Death Valley, Lockerbie Kings, and several who started
up in the 2nd Season, Barnsley AFC, Aberdeen Terrors, Bishop Auckland etc"

54 teams continued from the NFL2 into the first season of the Opal. The 10 disappearing were:

Auckland Arrows
Raddon's Baddon
Cologne FC
Ziggy Villa
Roberto Athletic
Claret & Blue
Athletico Moston
Knowles Rangers
Brazil FC
Fc Liverpool
The Saddlers
Garthbee Gola
Mostons Alliance
Denbigh Town

The Opal emerged in early Feb 1999 and we are now in Season 43 of the Opal.

Looks like Glynn merged another league into the Opal after Season 2 with 38 teams leaving and teams like Chapel North and Woolwich Manor joining.

Season 3 started with:

Golden Serpents
Bishop Auckland

AFC Dons
Mighty Mariners
1998 CD Allstar
Stenhousemuir
West Ham United
Fc Liverpool
The Saddlers

The teams confined to outer space were:
