Can't find the answer to this anywhere...

Does (or should) a player get a 'Sub appearance' if he was on the bench but didn't come on?

To me that's not an "Appearance" I would count that as coming on.

I'm keeping track of lots of stuff in SS2 so need to know how to apply this. A player who starts as a sub and comes on, gets a 'Sub appearance', I think that's fairly clear. But I'm not sure if a player who's chosen as sub but doesn't start should get anything at all? I suppose he was 'chosen', but basically did nothing, so I'm not sure if it should count.

That's the way I see it

Shouldn't count. No one is given credit for being on the bench unused in real football and see no reason why they should get credit for being an unused sub (if a manager wants the "boost" of a player making an appearance they should have to bring them on, even if it is just for a minute).

Yeah that's how it is right now. If they play a second, they'll get a 'Sub Appearance', but if they stay on the bench the whole game, they get nothing at all.

Agreed, unused subs just get the glory of being named on team sheet and nothing else.

I didn't want to argue until I could confirm but I was pretty sure that just sitting on the bench WAS counted currently in SS1 (even though I think it shouldn't). I tested it this week in the WPL and both players got a sub appearance without the effort of muddying their boots. Come to think of it, I knew that already from playing vacant teams - one possible give away they are vacant is when all 11 first team players and the subs have exactly the same number of apps (or sub apps). If they were vacant they wouldn't be able to bring subs on and they would always have zero apps.
I agree with others that in SS2 they shouldn't be counted - but I just wanted to point out that SS1 does.

Yep, Glynn spoke incorrectly. Didn't even notice his comment until you just mentioned this !

To be fair sub appearances weren't counting in SS1 until Glynn fixed it a short while ago (specifically they weren't counting towards an individual's stats, just listed on the team scout reports/next week's opponents and then being wiped come week 31), hence the spiel in manager reports stating about sub appearances from April 2016 onwards, as that was when he fixed it.

Erm yeah, I guess it's 'wrong' in SS1 and could be corrected if people prefer it this way (i.e not appearance recorded unless the sub actually comes onto the pitch).

Personally not that bothered, but then I tend to use both subs 99% of the time. Seems like a lot of work for you for little reward so personally not bothered one way or the other (just making it so subs counted at all was the issue for me as having players who may have say spent two seasons as a sub, scored a few goals but the report would state x has played no games and scored 6 goals was always the dumb issue from my perspective). :)

I agree with Rich, don't bother changing ss1.
