This is a problem that occurs in SS1 too, but this is referring specifically to it happening in SS2...

If a player is injured in a match but has been picked to play in another match that week (e.g a youth player who's playing in the first team and also in the youth team), would you prefer him to be injured 'realistically' and not play in the youth team, with the computer picking a replacement or would you prefer all injuries to occur after all matches (not realistic but gives you control over what's happening).

Since league / cup weeks will be more common in SS2 due to the amount of cups (3), then this will happen more often and of course the league and youth team always play every week anyway and can include players from the youth team, which doesn't happen in SS1 (in SS1 this only happens on a league/cup week and I'm not sure how it handles it, I think it just replaces the player).

My thought is, if he's injured he's injured and pick another player, as long as the computer picks the best replacement player

Sorry, Glynn, I did read this earlier, but didn't have a strong opinion to make me post.

I'm actually happy with which ever way you go. On one hand, there are lots of elements of the game which aren't meant to be realistic, like all the games happeninh at midnight on the day of the turns, so I'd be happy for him to play all games - and suffer the effects of injury for the following week.

On the other hand, it adds another randomised element to the game and might dissuade folks from playing star 16yos in multiple games (unless there are fatigue ratings that would already stop that happening?). Fine if the computer picks a great replacement, but I fear there could be issues if folks don't have another in that position available, it could mean a forced formation change.

Actually, now I'm thinking it through, I think we should sod the realism and let the player play through the pain barrier for all games on that day. Does a magic sponge work if he's broken his leg? lol

The computer right now is pretty good at picking players. It's not really that complicated since SS players are relatively simple, so it does a good job. But then, it might not be what you want as a manager. If it was always a case of just picking the best players based on ratings, you may as well let the computer do it all the time. It might pick a player you're saving or more likely, pick a formation you don't want.

Usually it'll just be a youth player, injured in the first team who then can't play in the youth team, which I doubt will bother many people, but this will also apply for cup matches which could definitely be annoying.

Personally I'm also for the unrealistic option of the letting him play all the games for the week and then become injured afterwards. It's a bit strange, but it does give you the control you should have, since you're not on the spot to deal with it match-by-match.

I like John had no strong opinions on this when I read it!

But do also feel unrealistic is better for the 'game'

Right, so unless people think otherwise, I'm going for the unrealistic option because it will definitely be more playable for the managers. I'm not sure if injuries should be 'added' if he's injured in both games, but probably better to just only count the more severe injury in that case.

Also am guessing if he is sent off in first game same rules apply? As in his ban will only start after the second game of the week!

I think this is best option as is most sensible for a game like SS

Well there's another issue, are cup and league suspensions the same thing? If they are, then yes, it'd hold off until after all matches and then add the suspensions.

But the only matches that can be played 'at the same time' would be league full and youth, one cup (either full or youth) and reserves. They'd all have their own separate suspensions, except maybe leagues and cups, I'm not sure how that works. I was wondering if you're sent off in the league for example, you're just suspended for the next game IN THAT COMPETITION? Or does/should it not work like that?

Thanks for keeping the dialogue going, it really helps my brain to sift through this stuff, there's quite a lot to think about and it can stagnate... especially at my age :P

I think it would be better if all competitions had their own suspensions for another reason - say your player is suspended for the full team and has a 1 match suspension left, but you have league AND cup matches for the full team that week...... there's basically no way that I can sort it on the sheet so that he's only suspended for one... which one is he suspended for? So he'd basically be suspended for both full team matches, even though the suspension only has 1 week left to run.

I'm thinking that separate is better. A red card in the youth league for example would just give a 3-match suspension for the youth league, not any other comp. A red card in SLFA cup would mean he misses just the next match in the SLFA cup. Sound right?

Yeah, I think (although could be wrong) that is how it works in "real" football, you are only suspended from the comp, you got the red card in.

You are right...you are indeed wrong.

Suspensions carry between comps and are time based rather than comp based in the UK.
