With the BS dumped out of the competition in the group stages, the clever money now rested on BA to take the trophy. As the oldest league in the world, it was felt that their experience would carry them through to victory. Indeed, SLFA boss Glynn Carey said before the match 'My money is on the BA'. Bearing in mind his prediction record over the course of this, and other tournaments, BA boss Si Hothersall reacted angrily at the extra pressure being put on his team.

He was right to be worried. After just 9 minutes, Premier took the lead from a corner, midfielder Danny Walsh heading cleanly home. BA then began to press and hit the post twice before half-time, but Prem went into the break holding onto the slender lead.

The second half was a similar affair, with BA doing most of the pressing. On 70 minutes, they were awarded a penalty when striker Derek Parkinson was hacked down in the box. Parkinson himself stepped up to take the kick, but was denied by a fine save from Premier keeper Pete Jarvis. As the final whistle approached, BA began to throw everyone forward, including their goalkeeper for a corner in the final minute, but the goal never came, and the BA join most of the other favourites for the tournament and take the plane home.

Once again, Mr Carey was seen leaving the ground early flanked by his entourage of bodyguards.
